A one-page checklist of the numbers every small business should know: margins, break-even, true employee cost and more.

How is this calculated?

Etsy fees are calculated on the full amount the buyer pays, including the shipping you charge. The fee values live in editable fields (and one central config), never hard-coded into the formula.

Revenue = Selling Price + Shipping Charged
Transaction Fee = Revenue x Transaction %
Processing Fee = Revenue x Processing % + Flat Fee
Profit = Revenue - Product Cost - Actual Shipping - Total Fees - Advertising - Other

Worked Example

Selling price: $40. Shipping charged: $5. Product cost: $12. Actual shipping: $6. Default fees.

Revenue = $40 + $5 = $45. Transaction fee = $45 x 6.5% = $2.93. Processing = $45 x 3% + $0.30 = $1.65. Listing fee = $0.27. Total fees = about $4.85.

Profit = $45 - $12 - $6 - $4.85 = about $22.16 per order, a margin of about 49.2%. At 100 orders that is roughly $2,216.

How to Calculate Etsy Profit

Start with everything the buyer pays: the item price plus the shipping you charge. Then subtract what it costs you: the product, the actual shipping (which is rarely the same as the shipping charged), and Etsy's fees. The transaction and processing percentages apply to the full buyer payment including shipping, which surprises many sellers: charging more for shipping does not dodge the percentage fees, it increases them slightly.

Because Etsy changes its fees from time to time, this calculator keeps every fee in an editable field, prefilled from a central config. When Etsy announces a change, update the field (or the config) and every result follows. Our Etsy profit guide explains each fee in plain English.

Why Etsy Profit Per Order Matters

Etsy statements mix fees across many orders, so sellers often feel busy without knowing if a listing earns anything. Per-order profit separates your winning listings from the ones that quietly lose money after fees and shipping, and it shows exactly how much a price increase or a shipping change is worth before you edit a single listing.

It also keeps promoted listings honest: once Etsy Ads spend per order is included, some "best sellers" turn out to be break-even products with good marketing.

How to Improve Your Numbers

Work the controllable lines: product cost through materials and making time, shipping through packaging weight and carrier choice, and price through small tests on your best listings. Watch the fee share of revenue: when fees and shipping together take a large slice, bundling items into bigger orders usually helps more than discounting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Etsy fee defaults current?

The defaults in the fee fields reflect widely published Etsy rates: a $0.27 listing fee (the USD 0.20 converted), a 6.5 percent transaction fee and payment processing of 3 percent plus $0.30. Fees change and can vary by country and account, so verify current fees with Etsy and edit the fields to match your shop.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee and payment processing apply to the total the buyer pays, including the shipping you charge. That is why this calculator applies the percentages to price plus shipping charged.

Should I offer free shipping?

Only if the price absorbs it. Free shipping moves the shipping cost from the shipping line into your price; run both versions here and compare profit per order. Remember the percentage fees apply either way.
